Rolling Out to Existing Sites

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be making PHP 8.4 available as an upgrade option for all existing sites.

PHP 8.3 Now the Default

With WordPress officially removing the “beta support” label from PHP 8.3 in July 2025, we’re making it the default PHP version for all new WordPress sites. This change reflects WordPress core team’s confidence in PHP 8.3’s stability and compatibility.

As noted in the WordPress Core team’s recent announcement, PHP 8.3 has proven itself as a reliable, production-ready version that offers excellent performance and security for WordPress sites.

Why This Matters for Your Sites

Keeping your PHP version current is crucial for:

  • Security: Newer PHP versions include important security patches
  • Performance: Each PHP release typically includes speed improvements
  • Compatibility: Ensures your site works with the latest WordPress features and plugins
  • Future-proofing: Prepares your site for upcoming WordPress developments
