Introducing Automated Safe Updates: WordPress updates that check their own work

Keeping WordPress up to date shouldn't mean worrying about what might break. Plugin, theme, and core updates help keep your site secure and running smoothly, but a single incompatible update can take it offline.

Managing updates yourself takes time, and until you get to them, your sites can stay exposed to vulnerabilities that already have a fix. Automatic updates close that gap, but if something goes wrong overnight, a site can stay down until someone notices.

Introducing Automated Safe Updates. Wordify handles updates for you, with a verified restore point before each change, a health check afterwards, and an automatic rollback if the site doesn't come back clean. Security fixes can run as soon as they're available, while routine updates follow a schedule you control. It's available now on every Wordify plan at no extra cost.

What happens on each update

1. Restore point. We take a restore point and verify it before anything changes. If it can't be verified, nothing happens, and the update waits for the next run.
2. Apply. The update runs inside your update window. Until you set one, that's 2:00 AM to 5:00 AM UTC.
3. Health check. We load the site and check it still works.
4. Roll back if needed. If the site doesn't pass, we restore it to the restore point and put that release on hold. A newer release is tried as normal.

If a site is already returning errors when a run is due, Wordify doesn't pile a change on top of a problem. Updates for that site pause, our team is alerted, and you're told. Once the site is healthy again, updates resume on their own.

You choose how far it goes

• WordPress core has its own setting. Minor and security only (recommended), all updates including major releases, or off. A cautious operator can keep core on minor releases while every plugin stays current.
• Security fixes don't wait. When an update closes a known vulnerability, it goes out as soon as it's available instead of waiting for tonight's window. You can switch that to the next window if you'd rather.
• Blackout periods. Running a sale or a launch? Add a blackout period and nothing changes on that site for those dates.
• Per plugin, per theme. Every plugin and theme has an Update automatically switch. Anything switched off waits for you. Plugins and themes you add later are kept updated by default, and you can change that too.

Every run is on the record

Each run appears on your Tasks page, including runs where nothing needed doing. Open one and you see the outcome for every update (Applied, Didn't apply, Not attempted, Waiting, or Rolled back) along with the version it moved from and to. The Dashboard shows how many of your sites are covered, and anything that needs a decision from you lands in Site Health.

Nothing to install

If you've used a separate update service, you know the setup: a connector plugin on every site, kept authorised, hopefully in sync. Automated Safe Updates is part of Wordify hosting. Your sites are already connected, so there's nothing to install and nothing extra to keep running.

How to turn it on

Automated Safe Updates is available on every account. New sites are covered from day one. For existing sites, it's a per-site choice:

1. Open the site, then under WordPress select Updates.
2. Use the switch on the Automated Safe Updates card.
3. Set your update window, core policy, and security timing on the same page, or leave the defaults.

Running a portfolio? Open Sites, tick the sites you want, open Actions, and choose Turn on Automated Safe Updates. Staging and development sites start off, so tick Include staging and development sites if you want them covered too.

Turning it off hands control straight back to you. Nothing else on the site changes.
